CANNON BEACH, Ore. -- The day after a windstorm lashed the coast, Cannon Beach residents began cleaning up while electricity was restored.The city's public works director said the damage was limited.Workers began to repair the roof of Seaside's old City Hall on Tuesday, which was torn off by strong winds.The old City Hall building is more than 100 years old and undergoing restoration. A gust of wind ripped the roof off its brick base and left a pile of rubble and debris on the ground near Broadway Street and Roosevelt Drive.During the storm, winds exceeded 60 mph in parts of the northern Oregon Coast. Farther south, winds came close to reaching 90 mph.The high winds knocked out power Monday afternoon for the coastal town, but Pacific Power crews restored electricity to all 2,671 customers at about 5 p.m.Cannon Beach Elementary School was closed Tuesday because of the outage.Tuesday afternoon, ODOT reported that Highway 101 south of Seaside reopened to all traffic.On the river, the U.S. Coast Guard closed the bars at the Columbia River and Tillamook Bay on Monday night but reopened them to boat traffic about 9 a.m. Tuesday.Karen Dodds, who was visiting from Woodland, said she enjoyed watching the storm."(We were) highly entertained. We weren't frightened. This is a lot of fun. A lot of drama," Dodds said.The National Weather Service predicts another coastal storm for Wednesday night.Related Stories:
