PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Two trafficked teenagers were “reunited with family,” and nine people were arrested during a February PPB mission to combat human trafficking in northeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau said on Friday.

According to police, officers focused on patrolling along Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard after multiple community complaints about sex trafficking in the area.

The people arrested were charged with commercial sexual solicitation and/or unlawful prostitution procurement activities:

  • 42-year-old Hermes Cardona Carreto of Portland
  • 33-year-old Alexander Davidoff of Portland
  • 40-year-old Cesar Gorgonio Lopez of Vancouver
  • 52-year-old Billy Hanen Jr. of Portland
  • 39-year-old Serhii Muntian of Happy Valley
  • 39-year-old Broderick Nelson of Vancouver
  • 60-year-old Jamon Pettit of Camas
  • 22-year-old Silas Reima of Portland
  • 26-year-old Sandeep Varala of Vancouver

Police also towed one car and said detectives also gathered evidence on other suspected buyers, suspected traffickers and ongoing trafficking investigations.

PPB said they also contacted four adult sex workers and two trafficked teens who were connected with services.

Police said cases involving human trafficking are complex and involve multiple barriers, “such as repeated traumatic exposures, trauma bonds with traffickers, and fear of retaliation. The survivors in these cases are often reluctant to come forward, make a report, and/or continue through the criminal justice process.”

Anyone who knows or suspects that someone is being trafficked is asked to call 911, PPB’s non-emergency line 503-823-3333, or the National Human Trafficking Hotline 1-888-373-7888.
