Victim identified in deadly SE Portland standoff

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A woman was found dead inside a home where a man was barricaded and in a standoff with the Portland Police Bureau for hours on Sunday.
At about 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check in the area of Southeast 170th Avenue and Southeast Division Street. According to police, a man called 911 to report a woman was dead in the home.
When officers arrived, police said they found a man barricaded inside the home, and “likely armed.”

A short time later, police said tactical teams breached the front door and found a woman dead in the home. The woman, whose name has not been released, was removed from the home, while the man remained barricaded inside.
Police said the man refused to follow commands for the next couple of hours. Finally, shortly before 9 p.m., the man came out of the home and was taken into custody.
The man was then taken to a hospital for medical care, police said.
Officers said they also seized a gun.
The woman killed in the shooting has been identified as 21-year-old Kimberly Venegas-Gonzalez of Portland.
Her family has been notified of her death and is asking for privacy at this time.



The medical examiner found the cause of Kimberly’s death to be a gunshot wound.
PPB’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene to investigate the woman’s death.
After being released from the hospital, police said the suspect, 20-year-old Leonel Macias, of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County jail for second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
