The Danish Sisterhood invites children and their grown-ups to attend a Danish Fastelavn party featuring games, Danish songs, refreshments and fun.
Fastelavn dates back to an early Danish holiday which took place seven weeks before Easter, in which participants would use a wooden stick to "hit the cat out of the barrel", thus chasing away evil spirits. Now the barrel is full of candy, and costumed children take turns attempting to smash it. The one to break the barrel is crowned the "Cat King" or "Cat Queen". Prizes for best costumes.
Children 0-18 free. Kids 19 and up $5 at the door.
