A 32-year-old man who was hit by a car in a deadly crash in Seaside early Tuesday has been identified.

At 3:13 a.m. Tuesday, Jimmy Lee Mehrer of Astoria was hit by a 1998 Ford Explorer on Highway 101 near Airport Road. Mehrer died at the scene.

A witness, who was Mehrer’s friend, told investigators that Mehrer had been intoxicated and had laid down in the roadway.

The driver, 18-year-old Jaydon Hunt of Seaside, remained at the crash site and cooperated with authorities.

The Seaside Police Department and Oregon State Police found that after Hunt observed someone in the roadway, he did not have time to stop before striking Mehrer with the vehicle.

Officers found skid marks at the scene that indicated heavy braking occurred prior to the crash.
