PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) – The Portland Trail Blazers have their next head coach.

The team announced former NBA player Chauncey Billups as the new coach on Sunday evening. Billups is a former NBA champion and five-time All-Star as a player. He is the 15th head coach in Trail Blazers history.

“Chauncey is a proven leader with an elite basketball IQ that has won everywhere he has been,” Trail Blazers president of basketball operations Neil Olshey said in a statement. “He is prepared for the challenge of developing the championship habits and strategic approach we need to achieve the expectations and goals for our franchise.”

The Trail Blazers said they conducted a thorough and equitable search for a head coach after the team parted ways with former head coach Terry Stotts.

Billups joins the Trail Blazers after spending the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers.

"I'm very excited and humbled to be the next coach of the Trail Blazers," Billups said in a statement. "Portland is a special place and a unique franchise. As a player I always loved playing here because the passion and knowledge of the fans brought out the very best in me as a competitor. Now I'm looking forward to being on the other side of that energy and engaging with the Portland community on a whole other level.”

Why couldn’t they spend some money and get a head coach with a proven track year ? Oh well another year where they won’t get past the first round of the playoffs again , oh well the fools (fans) keep buying tickets anyway so what the heck ?

Chauncey Billups who?

Worst PDX Mayor Ever

Well, he can't be worse than Terry Stotts. Face it, Lillard holds the power on this team, just like the stars do on every team. The days of the old hard head coach who screams at NBA over. The NBA has become pretty unwatchable anyway. They don't play D, they don't box out, they don't take care of the ball, their passing skills are weak, it's turned into iso, spread the floor, shoot the three, and look at how easy it is to penetrate and get to the basket in the NBA now days. When the NBA was better, if you tried to go in and dunk or get an easy lay-in, you got clobbered. This NBA? No thanks and Billups to Portland will make very little difference here. When they got rid of Stotts, they should have sent Olshey with him. The throwing away a draft pick to move up three spots to get Zach Collins? Yeah, that was genius. The contract for Evan Turner, and CJ? Nurk was good when that move first happened, but look at what he's done since then. Olshey has had almost 10 years to put a team around Lillard, and we're no closer now than we've ever been. They should have just hired Kidd and a bunch of losers just like him, like when they had the Jail Blazers. That's the last time they should have been in the finals, and if they had got past the Lakers, they probably would have beat the Pacers, which proves that a team full of nice guys, is a team full of losers.
