A small travel trailer submerged in the ocean Wednesday has been removed, the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office says.

A van that was pulling the trailer is still stuck in the sand.

Deputies say the van and attached travel trailer became stuck near the Del Ray Beach access point in Gearhart Wednesday afternoon.

The owner contacted law enforcement and several tow companies, but no one was able to help remove the van before the tide came in, the sheriff’s office says.

The Coast Guard Wednesday night said they were monitoring the area for any oil or fuel leakage. The owner of the van remained on scene after calling for help and cleaned up debris as it washed ashore.

Members from Affordable Tow and Sons and Beaches 4X4 club worked to remove the van and trailer Thursday. Crews were not able to remove the van before the tide came in.

Further attempts will be made when the tide is right and proper equipment is available, deputies say.

The owner of the van is cooperating with law enforcement.
