A 14-year-old girl drowned Wednesday night in a pond at Canyonview Camp, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and fire personnel with the Silverton Fire District responded to the camp, located in the 13000 block of Finlay Road Northeast, at 7:55 p.m.

According to the sheriff's office, Naomi Rudolph had been working at the camp as a junior camp counselor and was using her time off to swim in a pond that is about two acres in size.

Deputies learned that Rudolph was swimming when she began to struggle and called for help. Lifeguards could not reach her before she submerged.

Crews arrived to the scene and found lifeguards and camp counselors searching for Rudolph. A short time later, Rudolph's body was found and pulled from the pond.
