An animal abuse case suspect turned himself into Marion County deputies on Saturday.

Deputies were searching for an animal abuse suspect out of Salem on Sunday.

Shelter employees said two men dropped off a Pomeranian dog in a wire crate on Thursday at about 8 p.m. The men left the dog in front of the entrance to the animal shelter.

Employees found the dog the next morning at 8 a.m.

The suspect, identified as James Craver Jr, 47, of Salem turned himself in on Saturday at the Marion County Courthouse Annex.

Craver Jr was taken into custody and was charged with one count of animal neglect and animal abandonment.

Deputies said the dog did not survive and died while at the shelter.
