Two people around the age of 18 years old were shot and killed in Goldendale and the suspect was taken into custody near the scene, according to the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to the 400 block of Brentwood Road at 12:30 p.m. after receiving a report of an active shooter who had shot two people and was walking down the driveway.
All working deputies in the county responded to the scene.
The first arriving deputy located the suspect, Gary Hawkins, who was down the road talking to a man in a vehicle.
Hawkins was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies then went to the home where the shooting was reported and evacuated two people. It was discovered at that time that two motor homes and a storage shed had been set on fire.
Investigators said Hawkins started the fires. Firefighters responded and put out the fires.
The scene was searched and two bodies were found. Investigators said a male and female were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.
Deputies said as all this was happening, Hawkins was found unconscious in the back of the patrol vehicle. CPR was performed and Hawkins was flown to a hospital for treatment.
His condition was not immediately available, but deputies said when he is released from the hospital, he will be arrested on two counts of murder.
Investigators are not releasing a possible motive for the shooting at this time.
