A 20-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he allegedly led Fairview police on a car chase that ended in a violent crash.

Fairview police said they stopped Jordan Payne over I-84 at 238th Drive for speeding.

Payne allegedly did not have valid identification and while officers were trying to figure out who he was, he sped away in his car.

Officers said Payne traveled westbound on Sandy Boulevard to 223rd Avenue and then southbound on 223rd, reaching speeds up to 60 miles per hour.

Police decided to terminate the pursuit but still tracked him to 112th Avenue and Weidler Street.

Portland police said they saw Payne jump the curb and crash into some bushes and a Chase Bank sign.

Payne allegedly fled the scene on foot. He was tracked down by a Portland K-9 officer in the 1200 block of Northeast 111th Avenue.

Payne is facing charges of eluding, giving false information to police, hit-and-run property damage and eluding on foot. He also had an outstanding warrant.

Payne previously served time for burglary.

Portland and Gresham police assisted with this incident.
