Early Wednesday morning, firefighters responded to a fully involved garage fire at a home in the 10000 block of SE 99th Drive in Happy Valley.

Firefighters said a mother was sleeping when she smelled smoke. She then woke up her teenage daughters and they were able to exit quickly with the family pets they could immediately find. They said they could hear the smoke alarms sounding as they evacuated the home.

When fire crews arrived, the fire had extended into the bedrooms above the garage. They were able to quickly knock down the fire in the garage and contain the fire in the bedrooms as well.

Everyone, including two dogs and a cat were able to get out of the building safely. Four cats were still unaccounted for.

The Red Cross was on scene to help the family.
