It's the final day of the heat wave and fire crews across the area were busy working hard in the heat.

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to a barn fire at 11:20 a.m. near Northwest West Union and Northwest Helvetia Road.

When crews arrived, they found black smoke coming from the barn, flames showing from the fronts and someone inside trying to extinguish the fire and remove items. Once the barn was evacuated, firefighters began attacking the flames.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour. The barn is a total loss along with assorted equipment and tools that were inside.

No injuries were reported. A neighbor was taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews also responded to a barn fire in Estacada at 3:36 a.m.

The barn fire was located in the 22000 block of Southeast Dowty Road near Eagle Creek.

Crews arrived to the fire and immediately began attacking the fire. The nearest fire hydrant was two miles away so firefighters had to shuttle water to the scene with water tenders.

The fire was brought under control at 4:33 a.m.

One person was taken to the hospital for evaluation but is expected to be OK.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
