PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) - The Portland Police Bureau and Crime Stoppers of Oregon are asking for the public's help in solving a deadly shooting that occurred four years ago.
On the night of Sept. 7, 2017, officers responded to the report of a shooting near Northwest 5th Avenue and Northwest Everett Street. As officers responded to the scene, they learned a crash also occurred at the same intersection.
Witnesses told investigators that immediately after hearing gunshots, the Mercury went east on Everett Street, crashed into a small power box on the side of the road and then hit the parked truck.
Officers arrived and found 40-year-old Desmond Antonio Garrett, also known as "Munchie," dead inside a white Mercury sedan. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined Garrett died from a gunshot wound.
Police said after Garrett was shot, he crashed into a power box and parked vehicle. Evidence of a shooting was found on Northwest 6th Avenue between Flanders and Everett streets. No suspect information has been released, and a motive is not known at this time.
