Hillsboro basketball coach sentenced to prison for sex abuse of teen girl

A former basketball coach in Hillsboro was sentenced to 10 years in prison on rape and sex abuse charges.

Stevens Hyppolite, 43, pleaded guilty last month to charges of third-degree rape, second-degree sex abuse, third-degree sodomy and using a child in a sexual display.

Hyppolite was arrested in April for the crimes that occurred between 2011 and 2014. Police said the abuse began when the victim was 14 years old.

Police said Hyppolite met the victim while coaching a club basketball team for girls.

Hyppolite was sentenced in court Tuesday.
