Hundreds of runners flocked to Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood Friday for the start of the 35th running of the Hood to Coast Relay.
First heats started at 5 a.m. and were continuously released every 15 minutes.
Considered one of the longest relay races in the world, Hood to Coast is an overnight relay race where teams of six run several legs about 200 miles from Mount Hood to Seaside.
Over 12,600 runners are participating in the 2016 Hood to Coast, including actor Kevin Hart, who has had a long-standing presence with the Nike running community.
This year's race comes with concern as officials add increased security along the Springwater Corridor.
The racers will be running throughout the night and into Saturday. Drivers should expect delays throughout Friday and Saturday as the runners make their way to the coast.
