A busy northeast Portland intersection was closed to traffic Monday morning after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car.

Police said the collision occurred at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Glisan Street around 9 a.m.

According to police, a male pedestrian suffered traumatic injuries and a passerby performed CPR on him until emergency personnel arrived.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The driver remained at the scene was cooperating with investigators, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the crash.

Police said they didn't expect to release the identities of anyone involved until Tuesday.

Drivers in the area should expect delays, as police expect the intersection of 82nd and Glisan to remain closed for several hours.

Possible detours include Burnside Street, Stark Street and Halsey Street.

Bus lines 19 and 72 are also unable to serve the 82nd Avenue MAX station, southbound stops on 82nd between I-84 and Burnside or northbound stops on 82nd between SE Washington Street and I-84 due to the accident.
