It's grrrrreat: Oregon breweries team up for beer made with Frosted Flakes

Beer and cereal don't usually go together (or maybe they do; what you have for breakfast is none of our business) but a new concoction from two Oregon breweries takes its inspiration from the cereal aisle.

The 'Catch A Tiger' Double IPA from Portland's Montavilla Brew Works and Oregon City's Coin Toss Brewing Co. is brewed with none other than Frosted Flakes cereal.

The limited-run, 10-barrel beer is the brainchild of Montavilla owner/brewer Michael Kora and Coin Toss owner/brewer Tim Hohl, who are both originally from Detroit, Michigan.

When Kora and Hohl decided to team up to make a beer in honor of their home state, they looked to Michigan-based Kellogg's for inspiration and settled on the sugar-coated Frosted Flakes cereal as a key ingredient.

The brewers combined 25 pounds of Frosted Flakes with pilsner malt, five other types of specialty grains and five different varieties of hops.

The result is a beer with a "bitter bite with aromas of citrus, pine and orange marmalade," the brewers said.

No word yet if it pairs well with milk.

You'll be able to try Catch A Tiger at Montavilla Brew Works starting on Sept. 16 and at Coin Toss Brewing Co. on Sept. 18.
