Lafayette man, 21, killed in head-on crash, three others injured

A 21-year-old Lafayette man died and three other people were injured in a two-car crash that happened on Highway 99W early Sunday morning.

According to the Oregon State Police, a 1997 Toyota Camry heading south on Highway 99W crossed the center line and hit a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer head-on.

Troopers and emergency crews responded around 2:40 a.m. The driver of the Toyota, Jeronimo Huapoe-Morales, was pronounced dead at the scene, while two passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators noted that no one in the Toyota was wearing a seat belt, but other possible contributing factors are still under investigation.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 31-year-old Cody M Kliese-Hartzong, of Dundee, was taken by ambulance to OHSU for treatment.
