A man was critically injured in a stabbing that police are describing as "completely random" in Old Town.

Emergency crews responded to the Pacific Tower Apartment on the 300 block of Northwest 4th Avenue at 10:25 p.m. Monday.

Jacob Pedro Shroyer, 37, was found suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.

He remained in a medically induced coma in critical condition Wednesday.

Shroyer works at Bishops Salon in southwest Portland, where his clients and coworkers love him and are praying for a miracle his attack.

James Dixon has known Shroyer for nearly a decade and told FOX 12 he is terrified that his dear friend may not make it.

“He is a beloved son, friend, partner, barber, DJ and community member. His work and his artistry have made so many people happy,” Dixon said. “His injuries are life threatening.”

A neighbor who only wanted to be identified as “Bob” said he saw Shroyer just after the attack. Amid pervasive problems with drug use and dealing in Old Town, he said he is not surprised by the violence.

“The activity around our neighborhood is conducive to something like that happening, and sure enough, here we are,” Bob said. “It’s uncomfortable, it’s scary.”

Shroyer also works as a DJ around Portland known as Jakob Jay, and his industry friends and co-workers are raising money to help with his medical bills.

Meanwhile, Dixon is hoping for good news about his friend and the suspect.

“Jacob, we love you and adore you and wish you a speedy recovery,” he said. “And we have faith that the attacker will be brought to justice.”

Investigators said there is no information to suggest Shroyer knew his attacker. The suspect is described only as a black man with a large build who was armed with a knife.
