Police said a 23-year-old man was struck and killed by a car along I-205 in southeast Portland early Monday.
The Portland Police Bureau said officers responded to the scene at southbound I-205 and Southeast Foster Road just before 3 a.m.
Police received reports that a pedestrian had been struck on the freeway by a 2004 Isuzu Street Sweeper.
Medical crews and officers arrived to find the male pedestrian dead at the scene. The driver, identified as a 25-year-old man, remained at the scene, cooperated with the investigation and showed no signs of impairment.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unknown why the pedestrian was on I-205.
All southbound lanes of the freeway at Foster Road were closed for several hours. Crews reopened the road around 5:45 a.m.
Currently, no citations have been issued and the crash is under investigation. Once the investigation is complete, police said it will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.
Names of those involved in the crash are planned to be released Tuesday.
