A traffic stop in southeast Portland led to the discovery of cocaine and a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, according to police.

Gang Enforcement Team officers conducted the stop at Southeast 89th and Holgate Boulevard at 10:46 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said they spotted a handgun at the feet of the passenger in the front seat.

Two men in the car were asked to exit the vehicle and they were arrested without incident.

Officers seized the handgun, which they said had an extended magazine loaded with a total of 29 rounds of ammunition.

The driver, 23-year-old Alex Michael Curtis, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on the charge of possession of cocaine. He was released on his own recognizance Thursday.

The passenger, 29-year-old Dominique James Preston, is facing charges of felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. He is also being held in jail for parole violation.
