Police have released the name of the 6-year-old boy who was hit and killed while walking on Interstate 5 near Albany.

The crash occurred at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday. The boy had been reported as missing from his Albany home around 20 minutes earlier.

Linn County deputies and a K-9 team were searching for him when Oregon State Police were notified of a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle and a pedestrian, as well as two other vehicles, near Milepost 230.

The pedestrian was identified as the missing child, Nathaniel James Hyde.

Police said there was no indication of wrongdoing by the drivers and they all cooperated with the investigation.

The family of Nathaniel released a statement Thursday saying, “For the sake of having helpful information we would make known that Nathaniel was moderately to severely autistic and mostly nonverbal. We would also like to say to the truck driver involved that we understand that this accident was not his fault and that our love and prayers are going out to him."
