A pedestrian was hit by a car while attempting to cross the street in southeast Portland early Friday. The victim later died from their injuries.
The Portland Police Bureau said Traffic Division officers were called to the scene at Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 50th Avenue around 12:49 a.m.
Emergency personnel arrived to find the pedestrian suffering from life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Patrick Moore, later died while on the way to the hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest Moore made an unexpected movement in front of a vehicle while attempting to cross Powell Boulevard.
Police said Moore was not in a crosswalk.
The driver remained at the scene and called 911 to report the crash. Police said it does not appear the driver was impaired at the time of the incident.
The westbound lanes of Powell near 50th Avenue were closed for several hours while police investigated. All lanes are now open.
