Court docs: Portland sex abuse suspect has history of arrests, deportations

A 31-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 65-year-old woman and then stealing her car was arrested Monday night after assaulting another woman.

Portland police arrested Sergio Jose Martinez Monday night after Martinez attacked a woman in a parking garage in the 2100 block of Northeast Halsey Street.

Police reported that when officers arrived on scene, Martinez ran and officers chased him on foot through the neighborhood and several residences before capturing him in a neighborhood apartment.

The victim and Martinez were taken to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

Martinez was released from the hospital on Tuesday and was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

According to police, Martinez is connected to a sexual assault that happened Monday morning.

Police say Martinez broke into a 65-year-old woman's home in the 1700 block of Northeast Irving Street, physically and sexually assaulted her, then stole her car. The car was located Monday night in the area of Southeast 99th Avenue and Stark Street.

Martinez is being charged with two counts of robbery in the first degree, kidnap in the first degree, assault in the second degree, burglary in the first degree, sodomy in the first degree, and sex abuse in the first degree.
