A man making hash oil was burned on his body, neck and face in an explosion inside his Tigard apartment, according to police.
Emergency crews responded to the 9300 block of Southwest Commercial Street at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Officers arrived and found a window blown out on the second floor with the window frame pulled away from the building and glass scattered around the parking lot.
An officer approached the apartment and was met at the door by a man who had sustained visible burns. He was treated by medical workers at the scene and taken by ambulance to a Portland hospital.
The man was alone in the rental unit at the time of the explosion.
Investigators said the man was attempting to create hash oil, which involves the use of flammables and other accelerants.
The Westside Interagency Narcotics Team and a Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue hazmat team were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
No arrests have been made at this time as the investigation continues.
An update on the man's condition was not available Monday.
