The pedestrian that was struck by a car in southeast Portland Monday night died from his injuries. Police said the driver was arrested for drunk driving.

Portland police were called to the scene at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Woodward Place around 10:24 p.m.

Officers and medical personnel arrived to find a 23-year-old man suffering from traumatic injuries.

The victim was transported to the hospital but died shortly after his arrival.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 55-year-old Eric Sebastian Oman.

Investigators said the victim was with friends and was exhibiting strange and paranoid behavior consistent with either a mental health crisis or drug psychosis. This was not normal behavior for the victim, according to his friends.

The victim’s friends attempted to restrain him, but he broke free and ran into traffic where he was hit by Oman’s truck.

Oman was arrested on DUII charges.

Police have yet to identify the victim. His death marks the sixth traffic-related death in the area in 24 hours.
