A southeast Portland woman and her fiance were shocked when they found half of a black cat under their tree Monday morning.Amber Baugher said there was no blood on the ground, just a dead black cat that looked too well-groomed to be feral. She has two cats of her own, and even buried the black cat she found this morning in her backyard."This was disgusting. One cat I've had since I was 19 and I turn 38 next month. And if this would've been him, somebody would be in big trouble if I found out who that was," Baugher said. She added the neighborhood crime has gone up in the last six months, and more so since school has gotten out for the summer. Baugher said she and her fiance have discovered trespassers and heard of arson on their street, but that this is the first violent crime of this type in their neighborhood. According to the Portland Police Bureau, there was no obvious indication of an animal attack.Neighbors in this area of southeast Portland are discussing beginning a neighborhood watch group and also putting surveillance cameras up.
