Sen. Merkley denounces hate crimes, calls for Bannon's dismissal

Many people have come out and said they are not happy with Donald Trump hiring Steve Bannon as chief strategist, and now Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley is calling for Bannon's immediate dismissal.

On Thursday afternoon, Sen. Merkley spoke on the Senate floor calling for President-elect Trump to condemn hate crimes committed after his elected.

Sen. Merkley and ten other senators sent a letter to Trump on Thursday.

"That he exclude proponents of hatred and discrimination from the ranks of his administration, including immediately firing white supremacist Steve Bannon as his chief strategist," Sen. Merkley said on the Senate floor.

Bannon was the CEO of Breitbart News, a politically conservative website that aligns itself with the "alt-right" movement.
