A Linn County man kidnapped his ex-wife's new boyfriend at gunpoint, tied him to a weight bench, hit him with the butt of a rifle and put a plastic bag over his head before ordering him to leave the state, according to deputies.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office received a report about the kidnapping and attack on Nov. 2.
Deputies said Craig Patrick Waits, 53, of Lyons, tied the victim to the weight bench for several hours before he allowed him to leave.
The victim went to the hospital and was treated for his injuries.
Investigators said Waits' ex-wife and her new boyfriend had been living with Waits at his home on the 44000 block of West McCully Mountain Drive.
At 11 p.m. Sunday, deputies established contact with Waits and said he agreed to meet with them in his driveway. When they attempted to take him into custody, however, deputies said he resisted arrest and a Taser was used on him.
Waits was arrested and booked into the Linn County Jail on charges of first-degree kidnapping, robbery, theft, strangulation, resisting arrest and assaulting a public safety officer.
Deputies said Waits was in possession of numerous guns and also had surveillance cameras and booby traps set up on much of his property.
