The last day of spring sure felt a lot like the middle of summer in the Portland metro area, as temperatures climbed to 95 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

The scorching day called for some tricks in the deep end for hundreds of children who splashed in the pool at Hillsboro’s Shute Park Aquatic and Recreation Center.

“At my house, it was so hot,” 8-year-old Alayna Golladay Valdes said. “[My mom] brought us here because it was so hot and she wanted us to cool off.”

Marsha Ray brought her grandsons to the pool to put a pause on the video games.

“It’s a hot day, and this is the first week of summer break and they’re already getting bored,” Ray said. “It’s something to do, and they get some exercise.”

And those seeking a tough workout found some relief in Forest Park.

Lindsey Harrison hit the trail in the heat of the day.

But a slight breeze and some shade was a nice combination.

“You don’t realize it’s 90 degrees, by any means,” Harrison said. “It’s super shaded when you really get in there. It’s awesome.”

Love it or hate it, it’s a sizzling start to summer – but Oregonians know it never lasts long.

Thursday and Friday are expected to be more than 20 degrees cooler.
