A woman and her 14-year-old daughter died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 near Astoria.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 94 just east of Astoria at 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators said a 2009 Suzuki sedan was heading east on the highway when the driver lost control negotiating a corner. The Suzuki crossed the centerline and was hit on the passenger side by a westbound 1999 Dodge pickup.

The driver of the Suzuki, Sabrina J. Rainey, 38, of Astoria, and her 14-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, a 31-year-old man from Kelso, Washington, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Highway 30 was shut down for 30 minutes before one alternating lane was opened. The highway fully reopened by 1 p.m.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, according to police.
