92-year-old Clackamas Service Center volunteer touches lives, inspires others

Anna Jones, 92-year-old volunteer for Clackamas Service Center

FOX 12 and Les Schwab Tire Centers are happy to announce this month’s “Be the Change” recipient Anna Jones.

Jones has been a volunteer at the Clackamas Service Center for 45 years, and at 92 years of age, she shows no signs of stopping.

In fact, the service center exists because of Jones and her friends.

Jones said it all started with bingo.

“Nobody believed but that’s what it is, yes it started with bingo money.”

After winning $1000 with a few friends back in the 1970s, Jones put her money towards what is now the Clackamas Service Center.

She said she wanted to help care for the homeless and those in need. The center provides services like fresh meals, hot showers and medical checkups.

Those who work with Jones said her passion for helping others shows through in her work.

“She just embodies the heart of service,” said the center’s executive director Debra Mason. “If it wasn't for her and the other ladies, we wouldn't be able to help as many people as we do.”

Why does she do it? For Jones, the reason is simple.

“I’m 92 years old and I still come here and I feel good when I come here.”
