It’s a warm and humid start to the day. Most of the metro area only fell into the 70s overnight due to cloudy skies and higher dew points. This was actually one of the warmest overnights of the summer. Southerly flow is bringing clouds and monsoonal moisture to the Pacific Northwest, which is why it feels humid outside. In addition, isolated showers and storms have been developing overnight and early this morning. Similar activity will continue today as clouds stream in from the south. Temperatures will max out around 90 degrees in the metro area, but it will feel several degrees warmer than that when you factor in the humidity. Spotty showers and isolated storms will also persist, but most of us should stay dry.
Don’t expect to see any drastic changes to the weather pattern over the next 3-5 days. High pressure will slowly back off, but this is a pretty large ridge. We’ll remain along the western periphery of the high pressure system through Wednesday, keeping metro area highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.
Our focus will shift to the northwest late in the week as a trough of low pressure drops out of the Gulf of Alaska. Computer models are in pretty good agreement that cooler weather will arrive by Thursday and Friday, along with chances for showers. The best chance for measurable rain will be across far northwest Oregon and western Washington. Expect high temps to fall in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Stay cool out there, and happy Saturday!
