MILWAUKIE Ore. (KPTV) - Bob’s Red Mill will close its Whole Grain Store and restaurant in Milwaukie this month, the company announced Saturday.

The store and restaurant have been open for 22 years. The company will remain in business, but it will no longer operate the store and cafe.

“I feel like the people who work here in the 10 years I have been coming here are people that know their products, they can answer questions,” said Dawn Tacker, who drove from Silverton to shop one last time. “It doesn’t feel like another business; it always felt like an independent business and one that contributes something unique to the area.”

“People came from far to come to Bob’s Red Mill,” said April Hutchens, a customer of more than 20 years. “It’s like a day trip; it’s something to do because you don’t have this in every town.”

In a statement to FOX 12, a representative of the company explained the decision.

“Despite everyone’s hard work and best efforts, the Whole Grain Store has been operating at a loss for many years, and for that reason we’ve recently made the call for us to close it to focus on doing what we do best: making wholesome and high-quality products for sale at our retail partners.

We sincerely thank the team members at the Whole Grain Store and Café who have been exceptional ambassadors for Bob’s Red Mill. February 9 will be the last day the Café is open, and February 17 will be the last day the Store is open.

To thank our long-time customers for their years of support, everything in the store will be 50% off. Senior citizens will receive 60% off.

The company’s founder and namesake, Bob Moore, died in February 2024 at the age of 94.

“He gave a lot and helped a lot of people out. He was a really good man,” said Dan Hutchens, a customer of more than 20 years.
