Beaverton trampoline park reopens after confirmed measles case
BEAVERTON, Ore. (KPTV) - A local trampoline park is back open and busy again— after a deep cleaning. It comes after Oregon Health Authority as identified “Sky Zone Beaverton” as a possible measles exposure site.
“It’s kind of crazy, I’ve never been in that situation before, obviously it’s still kind of concerning, especially because it was so recent to, but hopefully I’ll be fine,” said customer Luke Crowley.
According to the Oregon Health Authority, a confirmed measles case may have exposed others at Sky Zone Beaverton on July 18 between noon and 3 p.m.
Sky Zone tells FOX 12 after they were notified of the case on Thursday, July 23, the park closed until 3 p.m. on Friday to complete a comprehensive deep cleaning of high-touch surfaces, guest-contact areas, and play areas.
“It’s a bit shocking, but being vaccinated is reassuring but I just hope it was isolated incident of the day,” said customer Elisa Kourouma.
Elisa Kourouma is a member at the trampoline park, and said she also didn’t know about the exposure, and doesn’t think she’s alone.
“I don’t think a lot of people know, I mean I’m a member here four days a week and I didn’t know until my husband told me so I’m pretty sure they don’t have any idea about the measle outbreak or scare because I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be there with kids right now,” said Kourouma.
We reached out to Sky Zone about the measles exposure and received a statement that said, “the health and safety of guests and team members is our top priority. We are in close contact with local health authorities and are following their guidance.”
Kourouma said she still plans to return, but hopes the business adds signage or more visible notices to help get the word out.
“It’s very important that they do something quickly about letting the people know that don’t know about the spread and the risk and they need to do it like right now,” said Kourouma.
If you or your children are experiencing symptoms of measles, health officials urge you to call your medical provider to avoid exposing others.
