OREGON CITY, Ore. (KPTV) - A man accused of leading deputies on a high-speed chase from Mulino to Oregon City was arrested after he was found hiding in a tree.

At around 12:45 a.m. on October 31, a Clackamas County deputy was heading south on Highway 213 in the Mulino area when they spotted a car heading north going 74 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The deputy began chasing the suspect, who continued driving at speeds over 110 mph and crossed into oncoming traffic several times as he headed into Oregon City, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies spiked the suspect’s tires at the intersection of Hwy 213 and South Redland Road. The driver eventually stopped at the dead end of South Washington Street near the footbridge between Oregon City and Gladstone.

As the suspect left the car and started running away, deputies followed and lost sight of him.

Deputies used a K-9 to track the suspect to the back deck of a house on Washington St. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Maximiliano Resendiz-Thompson, was spotted about 12 to 15 feet above ground in a tree by an Oregon City police officer.

The sheriff’s office says Resendiz-Thompson eventually climbed down from the tree and was arrested on the following charges:

  • Attempt to elude in vehicle
  • Attempt to elude on foot
  • Reckless driving
  • Reckless endangering
  • Escape
  • Outstanding Washington County warrant

Resendiz-Thompson’s brother was reportedly in the car during the chase and released at the scene.
