Sheldon High goes back-to-back in 6A softball championship; Bend takes 5A crown
EUGENE Ore. (KPTV) - The defending champion Sheldon High School Fighting Irish shutout the Cinderella crew from Hillsboro’s Glencoe High 5-0 in the OSAA 6A Softball State Championship on Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The Glencoe Crimson Tide got healthy and hot at the right time, making it to the title game as a 21-seed with four road playoff wins over top-five powers Central Catholic, West Linn, and Westview.
With a run already in and Kinley Pappas on third after an RBI triple for Sheldon in the first inning, Payton Burnham helped her own cause by driving her teammate in to give the Irish a 2-0 lead. It remained tight before Ashlyn Martin clutched up with a two-out, two-run single in the fifth.
