Man in jail after being shot, injured by deputy during standoff in Camas
CAMAS, Wash. (KPTV) - A man was booked into jail Thursday after being shot and injured on Wednesday night by a deputy in Camas, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots in the 2300 block of Northeast Everett Street. Calls continued to come in reporting more gunshots until 10:30 p.m.
The Camas Police Department, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Vancouver Police Department, and Washougal Police Department all responded to the scene with armored vehicles.

Ashleigh Valenzuela lives down the street. She said her family was getting to bed when they heard gunshots.
“I usually try to have my mom time, so I was sitting in my living room, and the next thing I heard was a shot,” Valenzuela said. “I kind of just brush it off. Probably not even five minutes later, I heard a second one, five minutes after that I heard a third one.”
Valenzuela said she looked outside to see what was going on.
“We saw some cops driving by next thing you know we heard a fourth shot,” Valenzuela said. “Probably around 10:30, we heard like a fifth shot.”
Around 10:40 p.m., an officer flew a drone over the property to assess the scene and found a man standing outside a home. On Thursday, the man was identified by Camas police as Patrick Wetzel.
The sheriff’s office says they determined the Wetzel had a no-contact order against them which prohibited him from being on the property and having a firearm.
Wetzel eventually got in a car that was in the driveway of the home, and just after 11 p.m. law enforcement approached the car in an armored vehicle.

No officers or deputies were hurt, and one Clark County deputy has been placed on leave per agency protocol.
The investigation is ongoing, and no other details have been released at this time.
The sheriff’s office says deputies were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting and video will be released at a later time.
