BEND, Ore. (KPTV) — Les Schwab Tire Centers has created a new company foundation and will make its first gift to support recovery after the deadly shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend.

Tom Nolan, CEO of Les Schwab, told FOX 12 the foundation will focus on supporting employees and their families in times of need, working with nonprofits, and responding when unexpected challenges arise.

Nolan said Bend, where the company has been based since 1975, was directly affected, including employees and their family members.

The foundation’s first commitment is a $100,000 gift, Nolan said:

  • $30,000 directly to Silver Rail Elementary School
  • $10,000 to the school’s parent-teacher organization
  • $30,000 to the Bend-La Pine School District for broader school recovery
  • $30,000 to the Oregon Community Foundation, a local nonprofit partner

Nolan said the company plans to use its network of more than 640 stores across the West to help employees, customers and communities when needs arise.

The foundation is still being set up, including bank accounts and systems to accept contributions and receive requests for help. Nolan said updates will be shared on the company’s website, social media platforms and in stores.
