WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump won a second term by making many promises to voters. Nearly two years after he was sworn in, those voters can judge whether he kept them, and they will decide in days how he has done.

When Trump campaigned for president in 2024, he told voters he would turn around the U.S. economy and close America’s borders.

Trump often speaks about his record on illegal immigration on the campaign trail.

“Two years ago, we inherited the worst border in American history, and we turned it into the safest border, the best border by far in the history of our country,” Trump said at a rally in Arizona October 14.

Voters give the president high marks on closing the southern border. However, his immigration policies have been met with criticism.

Also, Trump has consistently received low approval ratings on his management of the U.S. economy, in part due to the ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs.

Trump fulfilled promises to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security. He also frequently made another pledge during the 2024 campaign.

“We will target everything from car affordability to housing affordability to insurance costs to supply chain issues … to the price of prescription drugs,” Trump said in a campaign speech in Asheville, N.C., on August 14, 2024.

Gas prices are up 40% since Trump was sworn in. The increase is driven primarily by disruptions to global oil supplies related to the conflict in Iran.

Trump repeatedly promised “no new wars” during his 2024 presidential campaign and said he would keep the U.S. out of foreign conflicts.

The war in Iran is continuing, as is the Ukraine-Russia war. Trump promised to end the Ukraine-Russia war on his first day in office.

Trump is now promising to deal with Cuba on the way home from Iran.
