TIGARD, Ore. (KPTV) - Alberta Rider Elementary School in Tigard has been selected to close, according to the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

The Tigard-Tualatin School District announced two weeks ago it was closing one of its schools because of declining enrollment and budget issues.

The district confirmed Thursday the school would be Alberta Rider.

“While this isn’t the decision that we hoped for, we recognize that the decision to close Alberta Rider Elementary was not made lightly, and we understand the many emotions this announcement brings for our students, families, staff, and community. While we respect the different ways our community may choose to respond, our PSO is choosing to focus our efforts on making this transition as positive and collaborative as possible. We are committed to working alongside the school communities that will welcome our students, supporting families and staff, and ensuring our students feel a sense of belonging throughout this transition,” the Alberta Rider Elementary Parent Support Organization said in a statement.

The closure will happen at the end of the 2027-28 school year.

The school district said Superintendent Dr. Iton Udosenata will present a detailed report on the closure plan to the school board at the Nov. 9 meeting, with a final board vote expected in the coming months.
