Monmouth man accused of shooting at Salem convenience store clerk
SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - A 33-year-old Monmouth man was arrested on Saturday after a shooting at a Salem convenience store, according to police.
Just before 7 p.m., officers with the Salem Police Department were sent to a U.S. Market on Broadway Street Northeast after the store clerk reported a shooting.
According to the clerk, after a “conflict” between himself and a man who was shopping in the store, the man got a handgun from his car and allegedly used it as a club to break a store window. Then, as the man was leaving the area, he allegedly fired shots at the store, the bullets hitting just a few feet from where the store clerk was hiding.

Police identified the suspect as Jonathan Roy Debnam and began to search for him.
Shortly after, SPD said the Monmouth Police Department found Debnam’s car. Officers with multiple local law enforcement agencies used police dogs to search the area and found Debnam when he tried to return to his car.
Debnam was arrested by the Salem Police Department and lodged at the Marion County Jail.
He has been charged with:
- Second-degree attempted murder
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Menacing
SPD said Debnam may also face additional charges.
