WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump said self-regulation of artificial intelligence is important following a meeting with technology leaders at the White House.

White House Correspondent Jon Decker asked Trump whether there was consensus among the leaders he met with that no guardrails or regulation of AI are necessary.

“Well, there’s a belief that there should be tremendous self-regulation, and we automatically have regulation with the Department of Justice, the FBI, all of that. But the self-regulation is very important,” Trump said.

Trump said local communities were also discussed during the meeting.

“There’s something else that was discussed, and that’s local communities. This is a group that loves local communities. They love our country, and they’re going to work with local communities for the data centers in particular, and they’re going to work to make the community happy,” Trump said.

Trump has repeatedly dismissed safety concerns, arguing that the U.S. needs to maintain its lead over China on AI.
