Custom hiking tours being offered in Mt. Hood National Forest

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. (KPTV) - An Oregon company is hosting unique and custom activities the whole family can enjoy.

Have you ever wanted to go on a hike but had a hard time finding something that was a good fit for your whole group? If so, Mt. Hood Outfitters has you covered with custom hiking tours and access to over 20 trail in Mt. Hood National Forest.

“Our custom offerings this summer are going to be our hiking tours. All of our hiking tours are custom to each individual group,” said Zach Kelvington, general manager for Mt. Hood Outfitters. “We have you reach out to us via email so we can get what type of distance, length, viewpoints you’re interested in. So that way, I can coordinate your hiking tour specific to your group, and also make sure we get you the perfect guide.”

In addition to offering custom hiking tours, Mt. Hood Outfitters offers kayak, paddleboard and canoe rentals. They are available on a first come, first serve basis.

If you’ve never paddled before, Kelvington says not to worry, they have attendants who can assist you.

“Before you come and visit us, either on a rental or a tour, you should always bring sunscreen, shoes that are okay getting wet, a change of clothes in case you do get wet, as well as plenty of water,” he said.

Mt. Hood Outfitters began in 2005 when it acquired the only permit to operate snowmobile tours in the Mt. Hood National Forest.

From 2007 to 2010, the company operated as an official Clackamas County visitors center so it’s always been a goal for staff to be extremely knowledgeable about the areas history, culture, wildlife, trails, and activities.
