SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - Fifty-one new state laws go into effect in Oregon on Friday.

The measures were passed by lawmakers in the regular session earlier this year.

One of the most talked about measures includes Senate Bill 243, which bans bump stock and other rapid-fire activators that can be attached to guns. They were once banned on the federal level but that ban was overturned by the Supreme Court last year.

The bill also allows local governments to decide for themselves if they want to bar people from bringing guns into public buildings, even if that person has a concealed carry permit.

Some of the other laws in the list of 51 that have caught attention include House Bill 2677 and House Bill 3825.

House Bill 2677 makes it easier to expunge juvenile criminal records, requiring county juvenile departments to automatically start the process when the child turns 18 or completes probation.

House Bill 3825 clears prior court fines for possessing small amounts of marijuana.

Other bills that went into effect Friday touch on things like health care, energy and utilities, housing and land use, labor and business, and more.
